Over the short history of our Touching Base Project, we have been constantly guided into action by our principles and aims. We move forward with the following outcomes already achieved.
- Our Training Sub-committee created the 21 hr Professional Disability Awareness Training - PDAT. This training was developed for sex workers and was auspiced by Family Planning, NSW (formerly FPAHealth Ashfield)
- Commissioning of discussion papers on legal issues and liaising with the Disability Discrimination Legal Centre to gain a Queens Counsel legal opinion on various scenarios that may occur during the accessing of sexual services for people with a disability.
- Consultation to local councils on access issues relating to sex services premises.
- Assisting service providers with policy development in New South Wales and New Zealand.
- Contributing to culture change in various disability organisations through networking and presentations.
- The Spastic Centre participation at Sexpo - an Adult Entertainment Exhibition in New South Wales.
- National radio coverage of issues through ABC Life Matters, replayed within 6 months.
- Creation of a referral database.
- Resource development for various stakeholders.
- We all joined together to march behind the Touching Base Banner for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2002 - 2006 - see our gallery for Mardi Gras 2002 photographs by Erica Red.
- Networking online with health professionals in Australia, NZ, UK and USA.
- Delivering workshops and presentations to various service provider groups at conferences, nationally and internationally.
- This website designed by students at University of Technology, Sydney - Stage One developed Oct-Dec 2003.
- With the agreement of Touching Base NSW, a New Zealand group of stakeholders with similar aims adopted the name Touching Base NZ on September 1st 2003.
